Karen McLaughlin has settled in Victoria after living on Thetis Island for almost eighteen years. She was born in Nova Scotia and has lived in seven provinces, including Labrador, and loves this whole big wide country of ours! She has a BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design, and has studied at the University of Calgary, University of Regina, andSaint Mary’s University. Two published novels, Choral and From This Distance, are amongst her achievements, as well as the Steeple Artworks Artist’s Society scholarship and EM/Media Scholarship. When Karen is not busy with her work (or grandson!) she can be spied flying along Dallas road on her new electric bicycle.

Karen is currently teaching Art Reading and Writing at the Vancouver Island School of Art. She is also a Senior Resident at VISA. She will also be showing at the Victoria Disability Resource Centre’s 5th Annual Artists with Disabilities Showcase at Flux Media Art Gallery, 821 Fort Street, Victoria, BC from November 30-December 3 observance of the United Nations’ International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3.
